Sex should be legal

The brilliant satirist and professional smart ass known as George Carlin famously asked, “Why should prostitution be illegal? Selling is legal. Why isn’t selling fucking legal? You know, why should it be illegal to sell something that is perfectly legal to give away?”

Carlin knew what we all know, especially now that we have all information at our internet fingertips. Consensual sex no longer deserves to be criminalized and portrayed as taboo. Being a sex worker should be legal and supported in every state, not just Nevada.

America has a bad reputation for the way it’s treated women. No right to vote until 1920. Massive wage gaps that still exist. Decades of legislation telling women what they can and can’t do with their bodies. The old ways of thinking are just that – old and dying. Taboos are being shed in favor personal freedoms, and states would be wise to recognize the trend and liberate all women and let them and all sex workers be free from antiquated traditions and fears.

Every person should be able to do whatever they like with their body, even sell it. If local governments would take their blinders off (like many states are doing with marijuana legalization), they would see there is big time cashola to be made off a legal sex industry.

The porn industry banks off the notion that people love sex and wanna see it and do it and spend their hard-earned cash on it. Fully legalizing sex escorts in every state would not only increase tax revenues immensely, but it would raise the profession to the revered state it should have, instead of being forced into back alleyways and unsafe locales. Legal store fronts where workers can be righteously paid and protected make everyone involved much safer, and will make the industry much easier to regulate.

Carlin was a smart ass comedian, but he was serious about his joke. It’s unreasonable for us to live in the past and continue the notion that any agency should have control over our bodies. Sex should be completely legal.
